I'm Getting Better Every Day

Maybe you've heard the old tune 'I'm Getting Better Every Day.' In Sweden, this song became a big hit under the name 'Bättre och bättre dag för dag,' which translates to 'Better and Better Day by Day.' For many, it’s just a simple melody, but for me, the lyrics have gained a deeper meaning since I started meditating.
Now, it’s not just a song lyric – it’s a real experience.
Why does it get better and better?
Life becoming better isn’t about external circumstances, but about the quality of our consciousness. If the mind is filled with stress, worry, and negative thoughts, our experience of life will be filtered through this lens. Meditation helps us release what we carry, making the mind freer and more peaceful.
When we daily clear away what we hold onto – fears, blockages, old patterns – each day becomes a little easier.
A journey of ups and downs
However, this doesn’t mean that meditation always feels like a constant upward journey. Often, we unearth and release deeply rooted emotions, which may cause us to temporarily experience pain, sorrow, or anxiety. It may feel like a step backward, but in reality, it’s part of the process.
One can imagine two curves:
The objective curve (blue) – the actual change in how much the mind has been cleared, which always moves upward.
The subjective curve (orange) – how we feel in the moment, which can fluctuate depending on what we’re working through.
That’s why it’s important not to let short-term setbacks discourage us. A bad day doesn’t mean we’re moving backward – on the contrary, it can be a sign that we are processing something important.
Different experiences depending on life experiences
How this process is experienced varies from person to person. Someone who has lived a life full of ups and downs may experience meditation as a roller coaster, especially at the beginning. For someone who has lived more steadily, meditation may feel calmer and more linear. However, both paths lead to the same result – a freer mind and deeper inner peace.
A constantly ongoing cleansing

Every moment is an opportunity to release something we carry. Life mirrors our inner world and gives us opportunities to let go of what weighs us down. The more we let go, the lighter we become. And the lighter we become, the more we can enjoy the present.
Life gets better and better day by day – not because everything around us changes, but because we do.
I wish more people would embark on this incredible journey. Imagine how your life would change if you started letting go of what no longer serves you?
